Limited Edition 63rd Annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Oyster Can
Modeled after the oyster tins of the 19th and 20th centuries that are popular with antique collectors today, this one-gallon can is a mark of the amazing history of the Oyster Industry.
Starting in the 1800’s Oysters have always been a coastal delicacy. After a canning revolution in France in 1809 that allowed food to be stored and preserved longer, these cans were created in the millions from a factory on the east coast. They were methodically filled, sealed, and shipped on trains around the US. Today an original oyster can may sell anywhere from several hundred to several thousands of dollars!
